A few months back I was reading Dangles and Bangles: 25 Funky Accessories to Make and Wear not long after a trip to one of the local crafts stores, and I encountered a mention of Button Bracelets. “Hmmm,” I said. I’ll bet that I can make one of those. It doesn’t seem too difficult. So, I went back to the craft store, bought a few items, and then promptly left them lying around for a month or so.

This time, though, instead of never getting around to it, I actually made a button bracelet. (My prototype, and my sister-in-law’s Christmas gift, as pictured above.) Mind you, I only made one and then set my buttons aside. In the meantime, I’ve been buying buttons as I find them. You know…just in case. Bearing in mind the mission of this blog, though, I though I’d get all of my tools again and document my process for making button bracelets.

If you prefer needlework, why not check out this cross-stitched TARDIS ornament that was posted to The World’s Largest Collection of Smalls blog by “Christine.” All I can say here is “Wow.” I only got as far as those cross-stitch patterns that were printed on the cloth.

Those of you who are familiar with the Classic series of Doctor Who most likely know the famous image of the fourth Doctor (as played by Tom Baker) wearing his long scarf while running across alien landscapes. That scarf is one of the most recognizable symbols of the show. Right up there with The TARDIS and K-9. For those of you not familiar with the scarf in question, look at the fellow on the far left in the picture above.

Some of you may even be lucky enough to have a Doctor Who scarf. Perhaps, as in the case of my friend who took the picture above, someone made it for you. Hello, and welcome to Crafty Beginnings (the beginning of Crafty Beginnings, even.)

I love crafts of all sorts. Photography, cooking, knitting, beading, t-shirt design, building sci fi props, you name it. Am I particularly good at these crafts? No. I’m also one of those people who thinks of a cool craft, and sometimes even manages to purchase the correct materials, but hardly ever gets around to actually doing them. So, don’t worry, I’m far from an expert. Maybe we can learn a thing or two together.

In this blog I will be documenting my craft attempts, from inception to hopeful completion. Hopefully I’ll manage to come up with a decent end product, but if I don’t…well, that’s okay too. Mistakes can be learned from, and sometime you get something cool that you didn’t expect. I’ll also be highlighting cool crafts I’ve found online (fair warning, I’m a Doctor Who nut. There will be sci fi crafts a-plenty), useful YouTube videos, my Husband’s cool wire-wrapped Jewelry, and anything crafty that I can find.

Yes, my definition of “crafts” is rather broad, but I figure that the more crafts I try, the more chance I have of finding something I’m good at. What crafts do you enjoy? Do you have some great links to share? Please let me know.
